Supporting Education Responsibly, through Visionary Innovative Cooperative Efforts

Summer Camps are offered throughout the summer for many different age groups. Subjects include both sciences and humanities. Enrollment is completed each May. See your school counselor for more details.

2010 Summer Registration Form

Elementary School

Junior Lego League
    June 14-18; 9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Jr. FIRST Lego League, for students ages 6-9, offers students the chance to investigate and explore issues of modern, real-world problems through Lego building blocks. In this summer edition of Jr.FLL, students will learn all about transportation in their communities and world.  Students design a poster and Lego model demonstrating their research!
This camp is free for participants, but students must be dropped off and picked up on time each day. For more information, contact your school’s main office or NC RESA.

Camp in the Kitchen I
    July 19-23; 9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Campers in the first ever Camp in the Kitchen program will learn all about food in our homes and communities.  Where does our food come from?  How is it made?  Students will then apply their knowledge in a professional kitchen, planning and preparing their own dishes!

Middle School

Lego Robotics
    June 21-25; 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

A more advanced engineering and technology opportunity for middle school students. This camp introduces students to the basics of robotics: planning, designing, programming, and testing. Student will work in small teams to design a Lego Mindstorms NXT robot to complete a simple challenge. Teams will be led by adult mentors and high school coaches from the high school robotics team NC GEARS.

Individual attention and hands-on experience will give students a head start on pathways to education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Camp in the Kitchen II
    July 19-23; 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Similar to Camp in the Kitchen I, but with more advanced concepts and cooking techniques!  Campers in the first ever Camp in the Kitchen program will learn all about food in our homes and communities.  Where does our food come from?  How is it made?  Students will then apply their knowledge in a professional kitchen, planning and preparing their own dishes!

High School

Summer Tech Challenge
    July 12-16; 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
A one-week introduction to advanced robotics for high school students. This class is based on the Lego Mindstorms NXT systems introduced in the Lego League program, but the addition of metal TETRIX components adds a new dimension to design and building.

Students will work in small groups to design and build a robot able to complete a unique task by automation and remote control. This camp is a great introduction for first-time roboticists, and a good way for experienced students to gear up for next year’s robotics season.

Camp will be held in the Robolab workshop at the Career-Tech Center.

Camp in the Kitchen III
    July 26-30; 1:00 to 4:00 pm

The culminating culinary arts summer camp.  Participants will learn advanced cooking techniques and will prepare all types of dishes, from snacks to full meals.  Ideal for students interested in the Career-Tech Center Culinary Arts program, or for those pursuing work and careers in food.

Michigan Tech Engineering Scholars Program
    June 27-July 3
A partnership between Michigan Tech, NC RESA, and The Fremont Area Community Foundation is offering up to 10 scholarships for Newaygo County students to attend this residential camp.  Each scholarship is valued at over $1,000 dollars!  Students explore several different areas of engineering through hands-on projects and lab activities.  More information and application: Michigan Tech Application
