    Substitute Teaching in Newaygo County


    The public school districts in Newaygo County utilize the services of EDUStaff/Red Rover to employ and assign substitute teachers, and in some districts, substitute teacher aides/paraprofessionals. If you are interested in being a substitute teacher/paraprofessional in Newaygo County, please visit www.edustaff.org, click on "Start Application" and follow the on-line application process.

    Part of the application process includes attending a meeting/training session.     General Functions

    ________________________________________________________________________________________

    The Coordinator of Health and Prevention Services generally supervises various health and prevention programs/grants and acts as a homeless liaison between school personnel, health professionals, community agencies and other affiliates of the Newaygo County Consortium.  The Coordinator will serve as the link between the home, CTC, and community in providing direct, as well as indirect, services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.

    Qualifications:

    ________________________________________________________________________________________

    • Masters level degree and licensure in one of the following is preferred: psychologist, MDE School Psychologist, board-certified behavior analyst, professional counselor, social worker, or school social worker. At a minimum candidates needs a Master’s degree and a limited license in the prior stated areas as the person can work under the supervision of a licensed professional.
    • Excels in public service.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience with Medicaid billing and maintaining SOAP notes and other requirements for billing services.
    • Flexibility in working closely with multiple organizations in Newaygo County.
    • Experience with grant writing and reporting.
    • CDL license may be required if transporting students on a regular basis.
    • Proficient in working with various computer programs.
    • Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.
    • Positive leadership skills.
    • Must complete and pass required criminal history check.

    Essential Functions:

    Essential duties shall include, but are not limited to:

    • Supervise the following programs: McKinney-Vento; Homeless Services for students; health programs;; any new programs as they are developed under Health and Prevention Services.
    • Facilitate 31n Caring For Students program for CTC students.
    • Coordinate and monitor interventions and supports for tier 2 and 3 students at the CTC.
    • Develop, implement and evaluate programs as needed.
    • Facilitate the action plans, meetings, and collaborative efforts.
    • Assist in developing, maintaining and reporting on budgets for assigned programs.
    • Provide professional development for assigned programs.
    • Collaborate with county agencies to support all students and family needs.
    • Complete required reports for all assigned grants (SSAPA, Homeless).
    • Build, maintain and advocate for effective relationships with other agency personnel and actively promote a philosophy of health and well-being for students and community.
    • Support positive behavioral intervention strategies to increase academic and social success.
    • Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.
    • Help students develop appropriate social interaction skills.
    • Assist students in understanding and accepting self and others.
    • Assess students with mental health concerns.
    • Help students adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment.
    • Respond to crisis situations such as child abuse, neglect, suicide prevention, etc.
    • Follow up with students to ensure that their situations have improved.
    • Provide case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
    • Evaluate services provided to ensure that they are effective.
    • Participate in special education IEP and transition meetings as needed.
    • Provide individual or group counseling.
    • Coach and train staff on trauma informed responses and interventions to support a welcoming culture.
    • Serve as Homeless Liaison for the Career-Tech Center.
    • Assist in Love and Logic, Trauma Informed, school widePBIS activities, newsletters, emails, etc.
    • Assist in coordinating student teams and leadership activities.
    • Provide interventions to students in the Early College Newaygo County program in the event urgent crisis response is needed.
    • Predictable/reliable attendance.

    Qualifications:
    • High school graduate, preferably with some additional educational skills and training.
    • Self‑sufficient and require a minimum of supervision or assistance to aid in the care and education of students.
    • Two years of work experience directly related to the program area (within the last five years).
    • Physically capable of performing duties specific to the program area.
    • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, tasks and safety procedures used in the assigned job area.
     Essential Functions:
     
    • Assist during the lesson by helping students who may be having difficulty in understanding or in keeping up with the class.
    • Assist by working with individual or small groups of students on follow‑up activities.
    • Assist by carrying out activities for an individual student or small group of students, under the supervision and direction of the classroom instructor.
    • Prepare classroom materials, assist in the preparation of daily lesson plans, operate audiovisual equipment, make instructional charts, and other tasks assigned by the classroom instructor.
    • Help with maintaining room inventory, recording attendance, typing, duplicating materials, filing materials, maintaining student records, creating documents, correcting student papers and other student assignments, and running errands for the classroom instructor.
    • Assist with behavior and/or discipline of students.
    • Attend building, staff and parent meetings, participate in parent conferences, perform housekeeping tasks, and comply with requests to call parents.
    • Be responsible to aid the classroom instructor or supervise in the instruction and evaluation of students.
    • Be responsible to aid in the direct organization and supervision of all classroom activities.
    • Be responsible to help in the repair of all equipment and materials in the classroom.
    • Provide feedback to the Classroom Instructor on supplies and equipment to promote the most cost effective and efficient program operation possible.
