The Engineering/Manufacturing and Industrial Technology (EMIT) pathway encompasses careers associated with the design, development, production, installation and maintenance of products or physical systems. The many fields in this pathway include careers in automotive and equipment service, building construction, chemical process technologies, and all aspects of manufacturing.
Students access careers in the EMIT pathway through a variety of ways. Some job seekers gain the necessary skills for employment in Career-Technical Education programs in high school, while most continue on to one of Michigan’s community colleges for advanced technical training for high-skill, high-wage employment. Others choose the professional route to employment in EMIT pathway careers by pursuing engineering or other degrees at the bachelor or graduate degree level. Additional routes to EMIT pathway careers include apprenticeship, on-the–job training, and the acquisition of specific skill certificates thorough participation in a variety of educational activities.
