Check out this amazing opportunity that takes place right here in Newaygo County. Camp Sunshine provides an inclusive camp experience for young adults and adults with disabilities.
At Camp Sunshine Michigan, inclusion isn’t just something that is talked about—it’s something that is lived.

The vision is to make the world beyond camp a more affirming and inclusive place by inspiring agents of change through transforming experiences and meaningful relationships.

Every day at Camp Sunshine, people with and without disabilities come together to experience a culture rooted in inclusion, grace, and joy. Here, barriers are broken down, gifts are celebrated, and everyone is encouraged to recognize their own strengths while valuing the talents of others.

The impact doesn’t stop when camp ends—it goes with campers, volunteers, and families into their schools, workplaces, and communities.

Together, a more inclusive world is being created—one relationship at a time.

January is Braille Literacy Month! January 4th is the celebration of Braille's creation!

Louis Braille developed Braille, a system of reading and writing using touch, at the age of 15.

We have two blind first grade students in our county who are learning Braille to read, write, and do math (which is a different Braille code called Nemeth that uses the same six dots in a Braille cell as the Braille literacy code. We are fortunate to have a powerful team of three working diligently to support our braille learners in Newaygo County!

Shout out to Sally Wayner, Andrea Atwood, and Madison Whipple! Thank you for empowering our students with skills and advocacy!

Engage with us! If you are out and about in Fremont, stop in at the Education Service Agency to learn more about Braille- there is an interactive learning wall (shown here) where you can engage in learning more! While you are at it, grab a freshly brewed specialty coffee at Java Junction just down the hall!-- see you soon!

In support of Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Service Project for Habitat for Humanity, BPA AM and PM chapter members had a little healthy competition. A few members took some time out of class on Thursday to see who could build the best house to enter in the BPA State Executive Council contest.. Brainstorming led to a fun building process along with building chapter relationships and a sense of community within our own chapter. PM "Gumdrop Cottage " was the winner and was submitted to the state competition. Winning chapter gets a certificate and a shoutout at the State Leadership Conference in March and on MI BPA Instagram.

Preschool Teachers and Assistants from across our county come together each month to learn, grow, and support one another. The first couple months, we have spent time sharing strategies that are working in our classrooms, getting “messy” with Early Math Essentials, and continuing to deepen our understanding of Early Childhood Positive Behavior Supports.
We are grateful for the commitment our staff bring to collaboration and ongoing professional learning—it truly strengthens the experiences we provide for children and families!

Building Bridges Preschool collaborated with the Great Start Collaborative to host our November Family Literacy Night across multiple centers throughout the county!

Click the link to view: BBP Story walk Video

Families enjoyed a magical Story Walk featuring Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? 🐻 After the walk, families participated in hands-on literacy activities designed to support early reading skills, promote language development, and encourage meaningful family engagement.

To make the night even more special, every child received their own copy of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to take home and continue the love of reading. ❤️

Thank you to all the families who joined us and to our staff for creating such a warm and engaging experience. We look forward to more family events that strengthen our connections and support early literacy!

The AM Construction class helped this morning packing 290 bags to be delivered to families of our preschool students. Just in time for Thanksgiving, this bag includes stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce! A huge thank you for all those who made this happen for our students! Especially Heidi Wagenmaker, Katie Renouf and Stephanie Phillips who coordinated and ordered everything to make this happen!
